WTF ?!

A Careless Cover

I'd like to start this whole thing off by stating I'm very particular about cover songs. There are lots of factors that go into whether I enjoy or dislike a cover, so for the sake of expedience we'll narrow it down to how well it fits. Yep. Trust me. That's narrow, So here's where the fun starts : SEETHER has done a cover of Careless Whisper by WHAM! . There is the debate as to whether or not this is a better version than what WHAM! did. No. It's not. Then there's the debate as to whether the band should have even covered this song. No, they shouldn't have. And lastly, the debate regarding how much SEETHER managed to rock a tune like 'Careless Whisper'. No, they didn't rock it. At this point you may be saying to yourself, this guy is a little biased, but alas, I beg to differ. I am a rocker my friend. And in no rock universe that I know of does a song like 'Careless Whisper' fit. Ever. No universe. Both versions are more sappy than a tree on steroids. And...get this...the lyrics " Never gonna dance again" and " Guilty feeling, got no rhythm.." are there. Dance ? Guilt ? Dancing Rhythm ? In rock ? Hell no. I don't listen to rock to dance, I headbang. And I don't want to sing along about feeling guilty and losing some rhythm I never had in falsetto. No people. This is wrong. A bad choice. A song that is not cool. No matter who plays it or how they play it. And anyone in rock or metal that chooses to cover a song like 'Careless Whisper' is guilty of a careless cover. Yeah. Pun intended. Check out the song below and ask yourself if the song rocks. Ask yourself if the band is rocking this. Ask yourself if it's good or bad. Then ask yourself why you wasted precious time that you'll never get back again.
