For Those with Metal in Their Veins...

FEATURED ARTIST - ELECTRONOMICON

Interview by Mary

METAL MONTHLY: Welcome Electronomicon, to your METAL MONTHLY
interview!…. Oh my, right away! I have to tell you about the first thing
that caught my eye on your MySpace page: “metal” and “techno” paired
TOGETHER! To define your music category. Honestly, I don’t automatically
think of them together….But, that actually brings us to the first question.

MM: What made you want to combine the sound of these 2 genres, and
make them one, your own?

Electro: Well, we happen to love all types of music, especially metal!
We also enjoy music that makes you want to dance….Van Halen got away
with DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY! We just feel it's time to put some fun back
in rock and roll. In all actuality, when we write material, it just
turns out this way. We did not deliberately put metal and techno
together, it just happened.

MM: Ah, sounds like the organic method….So expanding on that concept,
what is it about your music that causes you to further re-label it,
“electerotic”? (In other words, in what ways is your music also erotic?)

Electro: To be blunt, we enjoy having sex to our music. Actually,
Portway Films approached us and thought our music would be perfect for
some of their films. One of their female stars had heard the music. It
aroused her in such a way that she requested E_N music to be on a few of
their soundtracks. Also, on our MySpace page, we were swamped with
numerous Friends Requests from females. It was these ladies who let us
know that our music really arouses them in bed! That’s how the term
"Electerotic Metal" was conceived...

MM: Well there ya go; the female fans were heard!….Now in terms of
record labels, why are you so aggressively seeking major label
distribution, given that you’re already signed to an Indie?

Electro: Actually, our drummer Newo, has his own distribution business,
which is our Indie label. The reason we are seeking major label
distribution is due to the fact that we can't keep up with the high
demand! And, Electronomicon thinks BIG!! We've been doing this for many
years…our goal is to succeed in a HUGE way. (Isn't that every band's
dream?)….

Generally speaking, Electronomicon is about bringing back mystery,
fantasy, and having a great time, all in the name of Rock and Roll. The
only reason a few members from E_N started playing musical instruments
is because of mystery and fantasy….In order to achieve our goal, we need
to have major label distribution.

MM: Well, that would help, so cheers to dreaming BIG!…Now moving on
to discuss your visual influences: The stamp of KISS is obvious, but to
what extent would you say that your band’s look has evolved to more of a
Sado-Masochistic image?

Electro: Well, OUR STORY goes like this:

Momma met Daddy Nomicon at a church convention in 7 A.D. Mr. Nomicon
courted Momma for a while. Shortly after the courtship, Momma conceived.
Momma laid her eggs and they incubated for a period of time, until
finally they hatched. This was the day the Nomicon triplets were born.
Kram, Newo, and J.D., (we) are actually triplets. People assume we wear
face make-up. The strange "X" configurations on our faces are actually
birthmarks. Obviously, we are not identical triplets. Evad, our
vocalist, formerly known as Dave Nelson, started hanging out with the
triplets at an early age and history began….

….For some reason, people don't believe this story! So we had to make up
a lie just to be accepted in the "norm". Here is THE LIE:

….The image of the band came to Kram when he played a Halloween show and
didn't have a costume. He borrowed some face paint, splashed some white
on, and slapped an "X" across his face, and thought, "Damn, that's
pretty cool."

MM: Ah-ha! You gotta love Halloween….So let’s expand on that to
discuss your songs’ influences. To what extent would you say that
White/Rob Zombie has influenced your sound, as opposed to KISS?

Electro: Although we never try to copy anyone, we have always been fans
of White Zombie and KISS. Our music turns out the way it does because of
ALL of our influences: From White Zombie to KISS to Rush to Dean Martin;
and of course, let’s not forget Johnny Cash - He rocks!

MM: How interesting; what a diverse list of musical influences!….Now,
to get more specific on that point, let’s consider the first song on
your play list, the thrashy “Shock Me”. Initially, it recalls for me
Zombie’s “Black Sunshine”. To what extent would you agree or disagree
with that?

Electro:….Oh, I guess it does kind of remind one of that...

MM: YES! And, why is it that you want to be “shocked”?

Electro:….Impress us! We'd like to see some intelligence out of
people...SHOCK US! People should listen to the song VERY carefully, OVER
and OVER. They'll hear our answer.

MM: Hmm, no easy way out there!….Now, for the second tune, “Night”.
It initially recalls for me Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way”. To what extent
would you say that Aerosmith has influenced your music?

Electro: We did grow up listening to Aerosmith! It’s obviously
influenced our writing. Like we said before though, it’s never on
purpose. We accidentally have similarities to KISS, Aerosmith, and White
Zombie.

MM: ….And in terms of the lyrics, what is it that you want to rise above?

Electro: We are trying to rise above the dark side of our minds. For
instance, night is the dark side of your mind and night is also the time
to refresh... This answer may not seem clear at first, but it makes
sense, the more you listen to the song. E_N's music and lyrics require
time and consideration. Some fans catch it on the first listen; some
don‘t…It’s important to KEEP LISTENING!

MM: Well, that sounds like good advice, and a challenge!….So on the
very-metal, third track, “Machine”, the faster tempo and more pronounced
drums and guitar do stand out. In terms of the lyrics, let’s consider 2
questions. First, to what extent is this song discussing an existence in
which humans are overpowered by animals?

Electro: We'll let Kram answer this one: ...It all started with a box of
animal crackers. The rest is history….

….Ok, We'll let Evad elaborate on this: There is an overwhelming
empowerment of animal instinct that we are all driven by, such as
sexuality, companionship, survival, etc... There is a great album by the
SCORPIONS called "Animal Magnetism". That kind of explains it all….

MM: Okay, good reference…Secondly, what is it that’s made you so tired
that you don’t want to get up?

Electro: Please reply Evad: It's not that I'm so tired, it's that I like
THE dream so much...

MM: Yes, we all have dreams that we hate to leave behind….Now on the
fourth track, “Chained” you really show breadth of influence with its
almost Pop-ish intro. In terms of the lyrics, in what ways, good and
bad, is Love like a freight-train?

Electro: Have you ever felt first love before? It hits you like a
freight train!….You can't think of anything else! That's the good part.
But now, it's wrecking my home, and what I thought I was content with,
is now ruined. That's the bad part.

MM: Hmm, yes, first love is extremely powerful, at the beginning and
the end….So on the fifth track, “Don’t You Know”, there’s not only a
rippin’ guitar solo but also, the greatest variation in styling and
strength with vocals. In terms of the lyrics, to what extent are you
saying that you expect to be understood without having to explain yourself?

Electro:…Well, I do expect to be understood without explaining myself.
People should derive their own conclusions. I am just giving them a
platform...

MM: Oh, so it’s very open-ended for interpretation….Now on the final
and sixth track, “Twist”, there is a surprise: It’s instrumental! What
inspired you to include a song without lyrics?

Electro: This is one of the songs we contributed to Portway Films. This
song was requested to be recorded without lyrics. These films are action
films and the action speaks for itself. No words necessary...

MM: And, why or why not, would you later insert lyrics for this song?

Electro: If we decide to re-record "Twist" for the debut album, it will
probably have lyrics. But, we know as much as you on this one…

MM: Okay, we’re even!….Now, let’s switch to a subject that’s a bit
lighter! I noticed something peculiar about the location that’s listed
for your band…. How can you possibly be in Transylvania AND Antarctica,
at the same time?

Electro: Well, when we were hatched, we were gifted with supernatural
powers that allow us to be in two places at once...

MM: Uh-huh, let me process that one for awhile….And finally, now
that we’re coming to the end of the interview, let’s put to rest any
confusion about your chosen vocation: “I thought you were in the
Ministry?” (LOL!)

Electro: Actually, the drummer, Newo, is an ordained minister! It’s kind
of like how Alice Cooper has an honorary doctoral degree in Theology.
Well, Newo actually runs his own ministry. When he's not
performing/recording with E_N, he is feeding the homeless and building
shelter for the less fortunate…and Kram is starting to help too….

MM: Wow, E_N, thank you for that mind-bending trip around the Universe!
On behalf of METAL MONTHLY, Mary would like to express her appreciation
to the band, Electronomicon, for participating in this interview. Thank
you so much, guys!

E_N: Well Mary, we can't thank you and METAL MONTHLY enough for the
support. Hope we can do it again soon!…What we really want people to
remember is that Electronomicon is about mystery, fantasy, and having a
great time, in the name of Rock and Roll!….P.S. We would also like to
mention that although we really LOVE music from Sweden, Finland,
Denmark, Germany, Australia, etc., we are definitely AMERICAN METAL.
--We love you METAL MONTHLY! You guys rule!
