Viki: Just a few questions... so are you looking forward to tonight’s show?
Gary: Yea sure I mean nobody really says no to that question * laughs*
Viki: The latest album is much heavier than your earlier stuff, do you feel the audience is getting younger?
Gary: Yea the audience has gotten younger for sure, I still consider it thrash metal I still write the same as I did in 85, I cant be the same person I was because I’m not you know I’m a lot darker.. (Laughs) the inside of my mind is a very sinister place... So not been one you’d want to do to get into …
Viki: So been with new members, do you think it has opened up new doors for the band? For future writing..
Gary: I still write most of the material but lee is a great riff writer so his contributing which is something no ones done in a long time, you know robs getting better and better with lyrics. It just makes life that bit easier I don’t have to write everything all the time
Viki: So it’s a help
Gary: Yea it’s a help but I’m pretty driven so.. You know if I start feeling sorry I just keep on going..
Viki: What do you think to downloads and mp3s are you losing any sales or ..
Gary: Everybody does you know its going to be the death of the record industry, yea I can say within in 10 years us the record labels didn’t prepare for it and now there just trying to fight it and it wont stop..
Viki: Do you feel it’s harder to make money now days?
Gary: Yea I mean its all about touring now you know I’m not one to moan and complain about downloading, but you know I miss the days of tapes and lp’s you know
Viki: What do you think of the download line up this year as for as thrash scene we don’t feel there’s enough on there..
Gary: There was talk of us playing there but I just think the timing isn’t right because were already scheduled go over for Wacken, the time is a different time we gotta go back and work on things were already working on you know, Id like to play it I’ve wanted to play it since they called the fucking thing Castle Donnington. Which is a much cooler name, I love castles.
Viki: Your reaction with your fans, obviously you have the American European English etc who would you say are the most violent or drunk.. ?
Gary: the drunkest would b the European cities, the most violent are different in north America the drunkest are over here I think that’s mainly because in the eyes of the law its perfectly ok to be drinking in the street so they have a head start by the time they get in there so …
Viki: Of all the tours you’ve done, what’s your favourite place to play...
Gary: It has to do with sometimes, just where I like to be, I love south America because I love the people and the lifestyle there’s a warmth in the people down there and the women are just drop dead beautiful.. We drink with breakfast lunch and dinner down there and never seem to get wasted so you know...
Viki: What’s your favourite type of alcohol?
Gary: Just vodka sugar and lime... Crush the limes up releases all the straight vodka..
Viki: When your chilling out after your tour or when your on tour what’s your top 3 favourite albums to chill out too..
Gary: Rainbow rising, angel wings first album, ACDC high way to hell.. I need more than that because I listen to more stuff like dead can dance more than just metal you know.
Viki: It doesn’t have to be metal albums..
Gary: Towards and within the live album by dead can dance I have to have that its brilliant,
Viki: So who smells the most on tour then?
Gary: Our singer, because he just sweats it not the sweat that smells its just he has to dry those clothes out and wear them to other shows and they just stink and after about 4 or 5 gigs those clothes start to get funky!
Viki: So if you were a super hero who would you be and why?
Gary: If I was a super hero, superman’s not my favourite but come on he can fly his the fastest strongest he can kick any of the other super heroes asses his not the coolest id rather be a super villain than a super hero
Viki: So for the ladies seen as you all have long lush hair or beards, what shampoo do you use…
Gary: Pantene (laughs)…
Well Gary Thank for chattin’ to Metal Monthly and we look forward to the show!
