Metal Monthly: Matt, What is Going on Bro, Thanks for taking the time to sit down for a little Q&A.

Outworld: No Problem, Anytime!

Metal Monthly: For some of those who may not be familiar with Outworld, Tell us about your current lineup.

Outworld: Sure, the cool thing about the lineup is that Outworld has members from all over the world that relocated to Houston. From what I understand Rusty Cooley (guitars) and Bobby Williamson (keys) formed the band in Houston a few years ago, the band had a few other members but ultimately Shawn Kasack (bass) was finally hired and moved from Atlanta Gerogia, and myself (Matt Smith, Drums) got the gig and moved from Seattle Washington. The Great Carlos Zema (vocals) traveled all the way from Guionia Brazil! It’s just cool that were just a bunch of dudes from all over with the same taste, dreams and goals.

Metal Monthly: Describe your music and your Goals

Outworld: Our music is heavy, but at the same time very open sounding and dynamic. The last album has its “proggy” moments, which is cool. But right now our goals are different, were all on the “lets write a fucking bad ass metal album” vibe and that’s defiantly where it’s going this next disc.

Metal Monthly: You are currently based out of Texas, Where can we see you live, or pick up your cd?

Outworld: Well right now we are working on our next album, so playing live is not on our agenda. We are all working on getting out and touring with this next CD. So hopefully we will be playing everywhere next year!

Metal Monthly: If you could send one cd/album up in the space shuttle to be left on another planet, to be found by other life, what cd/album would you send to represent American Metal?

Outworld: It’s a toss up between the new Puddle Of Mudd disc, or the new Green Day.

Metal Monthly: What are your influences and what are you currently listening to on your ipod/cd player?

Outworld: My influences are very vast, I listen to a lot of music and a ton of styles, and I have influences in each style of playing, but mainly I have been digging on certain drummers, Mike Mangini/Portnoy, Thomas Lang, Marco Minnemann and Steve Smith have been my biggest influences over the years. I’ve been listening to a bunch of stuff non-stop. Lets see, The new Pagans Mind is killer, Im also hooked on the new As I Lay Dying, (thanks rusty) And I love listening to this new band a friend tured me on to called, Frost*.

Metal Monthly: Have you guys played guitar hero yet? your thoughts?

Outworld: Funny story actually, Rusty and I were hanging out with Oli, the guitar player from All That Remains last time they were in town. Anyways to make a short story shorter he had it on the tour bus and showed us how to play and we had a go at it. It was horrible; I think we are the worst guitar hero players ever. But it was a fun game; I like how they have the “trogdor” song on it. Good times.

Metal Monthly: How important is the internet these days in promoting Outworld?

Outworld: Very important! We have so many dedicated fans all over the world that we stay in touch with through our forums, myspace, website. It’s a great tool to get the music out there!

Metal Monthly: Anything going on in the Outworld Camp right now? New Material?

Outworld: Yes, like I said before we are working on a new disc. The tunes are way more intense than the last disc. There is this energy in the new songs that are just going to make this one hell of a disc.

Metal Monthly: Thanks for taking the time to sit down and answer some questions, Is there anything you would like to add, or say to Metal Monthly?

Outworld: Yes there is! Thanks for your support! We hope to be your city soon to tune you in, crank it the fuck up, and rock your face off!!!
