Metal Monthly: Thanks for taking the time to sit and talk with me about your latest effort and your ongoing works.
MM: I can definitely hear your influences coming through in your music, Pantera and Metallica to name a few. That being said you put forward a style all your own. Tell me about the members of Property, who they are and where they came from musically.
Justin Earven (Guitar and Vocals);
Being originally from Phoenix Arizona, I was defiantly influenced by the local metal scene growing up. Bands like Flotsam and Jetsam, Sacred Reich, Soothsayer all had a huge impact on me. I was of course influenced by Black Sabbath, who in my opinion, are the original and best metal band of all time. Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Venom, Violence, Celtic Frost, to name a few, were bands I admired and tried to emulate.
Mike Dameron (Guitar),
Born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley Virgina, I think I have a heavy southern style to my playing. My biggest influences include of course Metallica and Pantera, but also bands like C.O.C. But to be honest, bands like Motley Crue, Tesla and Cinderella, to name a few are the reason I picked up a guitar and started playing.
MM: I can most definitely hear all of these musical giants coming through in your music and your diversity is so refreshing. “Old School Metal with a Kick in the Face,” indeed that is what I hear in your music. You definitely have that heavy guitar in your face crunch and you manage to blend it well with a full assault of melodic vocals. This sets you apart from the typical metal bands that are surfacing these days. What kind of an edge do you think this gives you?
Justin: I think anything different has an edge. We fit in with all different styles and seem to appeal to many different tastes. I think all metal has a common link. That is a heavy groove. The new bands coming out are truly amazing. They are technically phenomenal musicians but when they drop down out of their furious riffing into a kick ass groove I think that’s where their music grabs you. This is what we are, The Groove and power.
MM: Groove and power that is what it is all about, easy to listen and huge hit to the head. I see that you released your full length album “Redemption” in 06, from what I hear and what I have read the album was received quite well. Very heavy, very in your face, a well put together piece of music. How has it been for Property since the release of Redemption?
Justin: It has been amazing. The album is selling very well and we have been playing non stop since the thing came out. We are extremely lucky to have a group of people that are truly friends and get along. This is the most important and most difficult part of being a band. I can see this thing going far.
MM: Good because the metal world needs bands such as yourself. Are there any plans for a follow-up to Redemption?
Justin: We are always writing. We actually have two new songs in our live set that will be on the next project and a few more in the works. For now, we are so intent on promoting the Redemption album that any and all energy has to be focused there.
MM: Understandable, bring Redemption to the top and then focus on the aftermath, makes total sense to me. I see that you are playing the TMT Metalfest in July with some heavy hitters. This shows a huge success for Property and what you have accomplished. How does it feel being part of such huge show?
Justin: TMT Metal fest is going to be a blast. The bands involved are all so great. Some are friends we’ve met on the road and some are heroes of mine. Flotsam and Jetsam, Forbidden, Raven. These are all bands I grew up on and who had a huge impact on me. I can’t wait to share the stage with these guys.
MM: That is a huge accomplishment, one that can make you proud of what you have produced so far. Are there any plans for anymore future dates? Do you foresee a tour oversees?
Justin: We are looking into going overseas. Our music has been received very well in Europe. For now though we’re mainly focusing on the states. Playing as much as possible and spreading the word of PROPERTY.
MM: The Europeans are always such huge metal fans, I am not surprised that Redemption is doing well there. Judging from what I see on both your band pages you have the promotional part covered with various pieces of merch available, do you feel that this aides in the success of Property? There are very few bands that can cover all aspects of their business like you have.
Justin: Merchandise is an extremely important part of promoting ourselves. We want people to see our name everywhere they look. We put Stickers, posters and pictures up everywhere we go. Shirts are the best though. Not only are they our biggest money maker but they are a walking billboard promoting our band.
MM: That is true, nothing says fan like sporting a t-shirt. Well from what I can see and hear from you guys you put forward an excellent blend of melody and in your face music. I wish you all the success in the future with all of your efforts. Anything you wish to add to this interview?
Justin: Thank you very much. Here’s to your success as well. I would like to thank Metal Monthly for everything you do for the metal community. It is people like you that keep this thing alive. Cheers and have a Kick Ass day.
