For Those with Metal in Their Veins...

FEATURED ARTIST - ROBBY of SKARMA SUTRA

Interview by Julie

Hey Robby, How are you doing? Thanks for letting us get an interview.
I am well, thanks for asking. We are currently seeking a record label. And how are you?

I'm doing good. Thanks! So tell us all about Skarma Sutra. How did you come up with the name?
Like the Karma Sutra it is a book on positions. But, not SEX. IT IS MORE LIKE A BOOK ON SPIRITUAL SOUL FUCKING POSITIONS AND THE SCARS AND GROWTH THAT IS INVOLVED IN THE DEVELOPMENTAL PHASES OF OUR EXISTENCE. Hence, the SKAR IN "Skarma Sutra" The book of life and it is written with the Ink of life...our blood that tells our story in our genetic make up. Where we have come from and where we have been.
I am all that I have been derived from and more.

Wow, that's really deep and one powerful name! You guys sound really great together. You all fit perfectly as a band. How did you come together?
I wrote several albums of Guitar and vocals and played the local Open Mic. scene in. Constant suggestions for me to start a band drove me to do so.
I was refered to my Lead Guitarist "Eric Umfress" from a mutual friend (my cousin Willard) and then my Drummer from a mutual friend and Max Musser was the Drummer. (Greatest 17 year old drummer that I have met) and the rest was from an add that I put out. Jon Phillipi on Guitar and Josh Webster on Bass

The power of suggestion brought your fans a really great band if you ask me. Who are Skarma Sutra's main influences in music?
I WOULD FEEL SAFE IN SAYING THAT THE OTHER GUYS HAVE INFLUENCES LIKE...Queen, Led Zepplin, Pantera, Metallica, Guns and Roses, A7X, Trivium, Pearl Jam, CKY, Pink Floyd, The Who, Prong...etc...I am into Alice in Chains, Elvis, The Doors, The Sex Pistols, Billy Idol(Generation X), Nirvana, Felix and the Hurricanes, Danzig (The Misfits), The Ramones and Megadeth... and Many More.

Great list of Influences! A lot of my favorites :)
I've listened to every song on your MySpace page and loved each one. Do you plan on going into the studio in the near future?

We are in the studio for the first time on the Feb 15 and 16.
We actually recorded our demo at practic in the attic of a Hundred plus year old house in Warriors Mark, PA.
So, we are sure that it will sound even better than the demo that everyone thinks is at a studio. We pulled our talents together and made it happen in an attic. We then recruited Jon Phillipi and Josh Webster.

I can't wait to hear the new recording cause I know it's going to sound great!
Have any touring planned for this year?

We have local tour plans in the works with the help of some influentual friends and other original bands.

Very cool, I need to check you guys out live.
Are there any special meanings in the lyrics of any of your songs?

I wrote most of them for the woman that I wronged to let her know that I really do Love Her. (Her name is Malissa and She does not care.) The others are about my states of deppression and telling my Ex Wife off and my Biological Father as well....life.

I think a lot of your fans will relate with your words. Music is a good way to get your message out and it's just the right amount of medicine that always makes most people feel better.
If you could choose one national band to tour with, who would it be and why?

I would say that we would be with Metallica and/or Danzig.
We would be in between them in Genre so that would be Cool.

That would be awesome. Maybe you could even sing Last Caress/ Green Hell with Glenn and James?
Where do you guys hope to be five years from now?

Playing the world and investing in ourselves. I personally would like to write more and do film as well as professional wrestling. I have my own book that I would like published and I have 6 albums worth of music written that I have not yet shared with the band.

Very interesting! You just have some massive creative juices running through you!
So I hear you're into body building. How long have you been doing that?

I have been training in martial arts most of my life and I started bodybuilding 17 years ago. continued after highschool and pursued a career in Personal Security (bouncing) and now I train to stay healthy and in better shape than all the young bucks. I like the structured existence that is involved as well as the science.

It sounds like you have all kinds of things going for you. It was great talking with you Robby. We wish you and the rest of Skarma Sutra nothing but the best!
