For Those with Metal in Their Veins...

FEATURED ARTIST - PETE LAW of THE LAW

Interview by Downshifter

Metal Monthly: Hey this is Downshifter, and I bring to you, a Kick Ass Swedish Metal Band- The Law....Thanks for your time, I appreciate it.

The Law: Hi this is Peter from The Law, and no problem, it’s my pleasure to answer all of your questions.

Metal Monthly: Cool Deal Peter, Tell us about The Law, Your Lineup?

The Law: The band started out about five years ago when me, Björn and Johan were stuck in other bands and getting nowhere. Johan called me up one day and asked if I wanted to come over to their rehearsal space
and jam so I packed up my amp and guitars and never looked back! Right from the start the goal was to play what would come naturally and from the heart and that was thrash metal. Both me and the other guys, well maybe not our singer, was raised on thrash so it’s in our blood. I think our singer was raised on Dio, and that’s all good too!
Our line-up right now consist of:
Johan Rudberg (Karensdag) - Drums
Björn Larsson (Karensdag, Flesk Leppard) - Guitar
Peter Östlund (Vomitory) - Guitar
Ninja - Bass
Tobias Jansson (Angel Blake, Treasure Land) - Vocals
...Hopefully this line-up will last for many years to come.

Metal Monthly: Five years! Sounds like more…I was turned on to you guys when I heard your Song Lawman and The Law in the Movie 'Get Thrashed', I asked Rick Ernst who is that, and he told me about you guys... How did you get your song into the movie?

The Law: If I remember correctly Björn e-mailed Rick Ernst just to say that we thought it was a great idea to make a documentary about thrash and wrote that if Rick had the time he could check out our band. Apparently Rick did so and really like our song Anthem and wanted to include it in the movie. Rick is the man.
Metal Monthly: Yea Rick is The Man…I totally agree. You guys are huge in Sweden, have you played America Yet...any plans?

The Law: Well thank you, but I don’t think we’re that huge in Sweden yet but we’re slowly making a name for ourselves. We would love to go over to the states and play but it all comes down to money as usual, but maybe after we release our album we’ll get the chance to go over to America.

Metal Monthly: America is Ready Peter… Tells us how you came up with the Band Name, The Law any reference to Anthrax- I am The Law?

The Law: We were going over a possible band name and I had made a list with possible names, and first we were going with Casket I think, but then the name The Law just made something click in my head. It was just perfect.....And I got the idea for it from the Exhorder album with the same name.

Metal Monthly: Awesome, So What is going on with the Law for 2008?

The Law: We are working on releasing or first album in April on Metal Central Records and then we’re going to go out and play live until people are sick of us haha.

Metal Monthly: Sweet Bro Sweet, Send us A copy, What is the Biggest Crowd you have played to?

The Law: I think it was a couple of hundred people. Don’t know the exact number though.

Metal Monthly: 100 that is more than me, When you were growing up what music did you listen to?

The Law: Oh man, quite a lot. Anthrax, Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Testament, Exodus, Iron Maiden, Europe, Twisted Sister, Mr. Bungle, Kreator and all kinds of other music. And not to forget my all time favorite band, Sacred Reich!

Metal Monthly: Sacred Reich is Bad ass! So What was the feeling when you first rehearsed as a group?

The Law: That we were all on the same page and was having fun playing music again for the first time in a long while.

Metal Monthly: That is awesome having fun is important, Do you guys do any cover songs, or is there one you would like to?

The Law: We’ve done two covers so far, Overkill’s Elimination and Caught In A Mosh by Anthrax. Elimination is going to be on the album.

Metal Monthly: Sweet, Do you also have a MySpace site?

The Law: Sure do! www.myspace.com/thelawswe

Metal Monthly: Describe the current Metal Scene in Sweden?

The Law: A lot of talented bands in all kinds of metal genres, but unfortunately not a lot of places to go out and play at.
Metal Monthly: That is why you need to come to America Bro. So Who has had the biggest influence on your playing style?

The Law: For me personally I’d have to say Wiley from Sacred Reich, Dimebag and James Hetfield.

Metal Monthly: Cool, What are you currently listening to on your ipod/cd player?

The Law: Right now I’m trying to get into the new Exodus album when I have the time to sit down and listen to music.

Metal Monthly: I got an advance copy of that Exodus album, and have been playing it ever since, So What is the funniest prank you have seen within the band?

The Law: Well our drummer is getting a bit bald now when he’s getting older, so for his 30th birthday I cut of a bit of my own hair and gave it to him with a bottle of Locktite. He thought it was really funny actually!

Metal Monthly: That is funny, I could use some myself, How about The Craziest Mosh pit you ever saw, was where?

The Law: At Tolvans Fritidsgård in our hometown of Karlstad.
Metal Monthly: Cool Bro!

Thanks guys, for your time, and keeping Thrash Alive!

Thank you.
